Live ADHD Free recently hosted a webinar on preparing ADHD students for college and beyond. Our ADHD College Prep Coaching webinar replay is now available. In this engaging session, we review how ADHD brains (called Innovator brains by us) learn differently and why deficit and disorder are not healthy ways to think about ADHD. The truth is preparing students for college and beyond often takes more than the best schools, tutors, or parenting. Equipping them with the right skills and habits allows these students to go from failing to achieving.
Highlights of the College Prep Coaching Webinar
There is a much that goes into ensuring ADHD teens get into college and then succeed while there. It’s based on developing good habits and learning how to prioritize and be organized. The webinar discusses these important topics:
- Traditional teaching is boring to most Innovator brains
- How ADHDers can lear to use their brains now means a better chance for success as adults.
- Finding discipline and the ability to follow through and finish tasks in schooling sets students up for success in the “real world”
- What the best good habits are for ADHD students
Why Working with an ADHD Coach is Different than Tutors or Teachers
While tutors and teachers can play important roles in college prep, they may not have a true grasp on how ADHD brains work. They may see the student as “defective” or incapable of learning, which may cause them to approach things from a negative perspective. ADHD coaches see students differently and have specific experience and expertise. The habits and behaviors they offer align with the ADHD brain. They support and empathize with students instead of blaming them.
